The brief
Snazzy wanted a small leather piece carrying a real piece of Moroccan weaving — set into the bag rather than printed onto it.
The work
Tan leather cut and stitched by bag-makers in Fes, with a brass ring handle and a flip clasp. The front panel is handwoven textile in the diamond motif, cut and set so the pattern sits square inside the leather frame. On a panel this small that is the whole difficulty: a few millimetres of drift in the weave is visible at arm’s length, so the textile has to be cut to the pattern rather than to the panel.
