The brief
A designer-led project: two mirrors with the Moroccan arch profile, framed in metal that should read as beaten by hand rather than cast.
The work
The arch was cut to the drawing and the frames hammered and chased by hand, so the surface keeps its tool marks — the texture is the evidence of the making, which a mould cannot fake. Most of the work on a piece like this is matching: finding the metalworker whose hand suits the drawing, then holding that hand across the pair so the two mirrors read as a set.
I worked with Aziz to help me get some product made in Morocco and it has been a fantastic experience. He does his best to get me the best artisans to produce the products that I need.
