The brief
Tod’s needed a woven Moroccan body capable of carrying its leather work — at container scale, across a range of bespoke sizes, and consistent enough that no buyer could tell one weaver’s hand from another’s.
The work
First prototypes were developed together with Loipell, the house’s leather partner, so that the woven form and the leather were resolved as one object rather than in sequence. Handles, reinforced rim and stamped tab were fitted to a body that had been woven for them.
Once the prototypes were approved, the sizes were distributed across our weavers in Fes with a single fixed gauge for each size. That gauge is what holds a hand-made run together: it settles stitch density and tension before the first bag is woven, so the last bag off the order matches the first.
